Enlist The Better Team

To Win Big Races You Must Enlist The Better Team

By Eugene Peterson

Eight seconds doesn’t seem to be very much time, yet, for the second time, I sat in the grandstands and watched eight second pit stops make the difference in winning the Indy 500 race. I walked away with a great appreciation of teamwork.  This race was both lost and won in the pit. Second place was only .361 seconds behind.  With the best accuracy a wristwatch can give – I noted that the average pit stop took between eight to 12 seconds.  When pitting, they changed four tires, fueled the vehicle and performed minor mechanical adjustments.  To win the race, YOU MUST HAVE the best team who can do their job faster and more accurately than the competition.  Lessons learned from this Indy 500:
• You must have the 10 best team members available.
