Practice Makes Us Perfect No Matter What the Problem

By Eugene Peterson

Today, as I write, I am sitting in executive club house suite number 15 at Gillette Stadium , near Boston, Massachusetts. I was invited as a guest speaker for a business meeting being held here today. While waiting for my turn to speak, I am watching the New England Patriots football team practice in their 2006 training camp. The field goal kickers are displaying amazing accuracy; as best I can determine, they have not missed a single time. The two kickers have kicked over a hundred times.  Obviously, they have been taught good fundamental principles – and then given appropriate encouragement and desire to strengthen their talent.  Some of us think that we have learned all there is to know, we do our job perfectly – and that there no longer is a need to train or practice.  Our company team has players who need to learn fundamental principles, be given encouragement and receive careful coaching – if we want to be league leaders. Yet unless we have a training game plan, we are posturing for a losing season.  Do you have a game plan?  Do you invest in appropriate training that will prepare your team to be a winner?  It is this practice that makes perfect. After all, what you do in practice, you do in the game. Is your team going to have a winning season? If not, tune up your game plan.
