Generate Vital Business Reports

Dozen Key Ways To Generate Vital Business Reports

By Eugene Peterson

Here are 12 of my favorite basic reports that I encourage you to generate and use, if you are not already doing so.
1. Bank Account Balance showing beginning balance, deposits, payments and ending balance. It is important to know how much cash is on hand.
2. Work in Progress – a production report that gives an overall look at jobs open and on the books.
3. Scheduling report – to include target completion date with variance.
4. Job Cost – comparing actual cost with job budget.
5. Payables – how many dollars need to go out the door.
6. Receivables – how many dollars expected to be coming in the door.
7. Sales report – to include jobs
• Approved/started
• Pending
8. Marketing report – detailing referral source.
9. Closed job report.
• Monthly
10. Financial statements – which include a profit and loss statement & a balance sheet.  (Knowing how to read and understand this report is extremely important.)
11. Customer satisfaction – results gathered from satisfaction survey.
12. Collections report – with emphasis on amounts past due.  As a practicing business consultant, I am an eyewitness daily to companies that are in trouble, companies that are doing okay (so, so) and companies that are strong and vibrant financially.
